Solvias invites you to the 9th Solvias Science Day

With the upcoming event, the science and technology service company will be adding extra strings to its bow far beyond chemical development and catalysis and will for the first time be offering a series of lectures on solid-state development and on the analysis of small and large molecules. In addition to contributions from science, case studies from industry will ensure that there is a particularly practical element.

On October 25th, 2010, the 9th Solvias Science Day will be taking place in the Congress Center Basel. A conference which has now established itself in Basel as a fixed annual date for experts in chemical development and catalysis. Motivated by past successes, last year the Science Day was supplemented by a series of lectures on analytical development – a program which was well received and attended by a total of 220 research, development and production colleagues from the life science and fine chemistry industries. This year solid-state development, which includes polymorphism and crystallization studies, will also be considered for the first time. In three parallel lectures leading experts from science and industry will provide insight into trends in the development of pharmaceutical drugs and share with the audience how these can be used successfully in practice and to achieve a competitive advantage.

The event will be opened by Dr. Rene Imwinkelried, Global Head Small Molecules Technical Development at Roche, with the topic “What Really Matters in Drug Substance Process Development”. In the three intensive sessions that follow, the areas of Chemical Development and Catalysis, Solid-State Development and Pharmaceutical and Biopharmaceutical Analysis will be looked at more closely. These individual disciplines also reflect at the same time the core competences of Solvias, although this is anything but a marketing event. “We are first and foremost committed towards promoting dialogue between science and industry and creating a platform for friends and customers which can be used to transfer and exchange knowledge. Thanks to our proximity to science we have a good network in the scene and are again able to offer this year together with leading scientists from the pharmaceutical and biopharmaceutical industry and research an inspiring program of high scientific standing,” explains Dr. Hansjörg Walther, CEO of Solvias AG.

A further item on the agenda for the lectures on chemical development and catalysis is the presentation of the prizes for the Solvias Ligand Contest. This contest is an annual competition where researchers from all over the world are called upon to submit their new or improved applications of Solvias ligands and catalysts. The prize recognizes among other things innovation, scientific excellence and the originality of the work and will this year be presented for the 8th time.

In keeping with tradition, the event will close with a get-together and will therefore once again provide an excellent opportunity for personal networking while talking to speakers and colleagues.

The invitation is directed at research and development experts and is free for all participants. You can obtain further information on participation and the full program from sienceday@solvias.com.

Journalists are invited to attend for any or all parts of the conference. For more information and to register, please contact Silke Oeschger, by mail (silke.oeschger@solvias.com) or phone +41 61 686 61 41
