“Dr. Blaser’s selection recognizes a career of consistent scientific and technical contributions to catalysis that have both enlightened the scientific community and generated significant industrial value,” said Dr. Alan Allgeier, Chair of the Organic Reactions Catalysis Society. “His accomplishments developing chemo and enantioselective hydrogenation processes are particularly inspiring. With an infectious enthusiasm for science and congenial nature, Dr. Blaser represents the best of the scientific community.”
After obtaining a Ph. D. degree from the ETH Zürich and several postdoctoral positions at the University of Chicago, Harvard University and Monsanto (Zürich), Blaser joined the Central Research Laboratories of Ciba-Geigy in 1976 and has been involved in building up the catalysis department ever since, first as research chemist and later in various executive functions. At Solvias he has been Chief Technology Officer since its start.
About the Organic Reactions Catalysis Society
The Organic Reactions Catalysis Society seeks to advance practical applications of catalysis for making organic compounds by fostering discussions, providing opportunities for members to present their work, and facilitating dissemination of scientific knowledge. At the biennial conference, the Rylander award, established by ORCS in 1988, is presented to scientists who have made outstanding contributions in the field of catalysis as it applies to organic synthesis.
